Description

The 2014 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A was struck at the Denver Mint as a dollar in the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint reported 5.6 million 2014-D Native American dollars as a whole, without separating the Position A and Position B edges, so how many show this orientation is unknown. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2014 Native American Dollar honors the hospitality extended by Native Americans to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The reverse shows a Native American man offering a ceremonial pipe while a woman holds food, with a compass displaying "NW." Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $7 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #527062.
