Description

Great Basin National Park in Nevada provided the reverse design for the 2013 America the Beautiful quarter, featuring a Bristlecone pine tree — one of the oldest living organisms on Earth — and WDDR-006 captures hub doubling that manifests as an eastward spread on the leaves of the bottom right branch. The Bristlecone pine's intricate branch-and-needle detail creates diagnostic opportunities where even subtle doubling produces visible leaf separation effects. The Wexler Team cataloged this as Wexler Variety ID: 2013-P 25 cent NV WDDR-006, noting no significant die markers on either obverse or reverse beyond the doubling itself. The "NV" in the cross-reference specifies the Nevada (Great Basin) design within the 2013 ATB program, which also included White Mountain (NH), Perry's Victory (OH), Fort McHenry (MD), and Mount Rushmore (SD). Philadelphia struck the business-strike quarters for this design in substantial quantities as part of the ATB program's mandate to produce five new reverse designs annually from 2010 through 2021. An eastward spread on the leaves means the secondary hub impression displaced the branch detail slightly to the right relative to the primary impression, creating doubled leaf edges visible under magnification.
