Description

Part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series, the 2013 (D) Presidential Dollar - William Howard Taft, Position B is a dollar from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint's figure of 3.4 million covers every 2013-D William Howard Taft dollar, whichever way the edge lettering ran; how many are Position B coins is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The twenty-seventh President (1909–1913), William Howard Taft is the only person in American history to serve as both President and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His presidency saw the ratification of the 16th Amendment establishing the federal income tax. McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson were honored in collector-only format. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #517690.
