Description
The 2013 (D) Presidential Dollar - William Howard Taft, Position B is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 3.4 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 16 mint variants, representing only 5% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The twenty-seventh President (1909–1913), William Howard Taft is the only person in American history to serve as both President and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His presidency saw the ratification of the 16th Amendment establishing the federal income tax. McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson were honored in collector-only format. The Roosevelt dollar is popular with collectors due to his role in modernizing American coin design. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #517690.
