Produced at the Denver Mint, the 2013 (D) Presidential Dollar - Theodore Roosevelt, Position B is part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 3.9 million examples, making this ranked 7th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The twenty-sixth President (1901–1909), Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest person to assume the presidency at age 42 and was a champion of progressive reform, conservation, and the Panama Canal. A passionate numismatist, he personally commissioned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to redesign U.S. gold coinage, producing what many consider the most beautiful American coins ever made. McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson were honored in collector-only format. The Roosevelt dollar is popular with collectors due to his role in modernizing American coin design. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
