Description

Part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series, the 2012 (P) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar from the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint reported 2.8 million 2012-P Native American dollars as a whole, without separating the Position A and Position B edges, so how many show this orientation is unknown. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2012 Native American Dollar honors the extensive trade routes developed by Native Americans who used horses to transport goods across the continent. The reverse depicts a Native American and horse symbolizing 17th-century trade networks. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $10 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #512463.
