2012 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007
ErrorDescription
Attributed by Brian Sims, this 2012 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel exhibits Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling visible below the upper right portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps of Monticello. Class VIII doubling results from a tilted hub pressing unevenly into the working die, concentrating displacement in one zone while leaving other areas relatively unaffected. The center door of Monticello — Thomas Jefferson's architectural masterpiece in Virginia — provides sharp horizontal and vertical reference lines where the tilt effect becomes legible under magnification. A die dot inside the right portion of the large triangle above the center door and a small die gouge above the I in MONTICELLO serve as reverse die markers anchoring identification. No significant obverse die markers have been noted. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2012-P WDDR-007, this variety adds to the steady catalog of Jefferson Nickel hub doubling events documented on the Monticello reverse, where the building's detailed architecture continues to reward systematic examination.
