2012 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006

Description

For the 2012-P Jefferson Nickel, DDR-006 presents a medium spread to the south producing an extra central doorway roof on Monticello — a diagnostic closely related to varieties found on other recent Jefferson Nickel dates. Die markers include UVC-1816 and DMR-007. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The confirmed early die state at Stage A offers the sharpest definition of the doubled doorway roof before progressive die wear can reduce its visibility. Monticello's central portico, with its prominent triangular pediment and horizontal entablature, has proven to be one of the most reliable areas for detecting southward hub doubling on Jefferson Nickels. The 2012-P issue continued the return-to-Monticello reverse that resumed in 2006, and the extra doorway roof serves as an accessible entry point for collectors learning to identify doubled die varieties on modern coinage.
