Description

On the Monticello reverse of the 2012 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel, DDR-005 presents medium spread to the east, creating an extra central upper doorway frame on Thomas Jefferson's historic estate. The doorway at the center of the portico is a focal point for doubled die varieties on Jefferson nickels, as its geometric straight lines register hub displacement with particular clarity. Cataloged under UVC-1815 / DMR-006 by VarietyVista, the eastward shift produces a secondary frame image offset to the left of the primary, doubling the vertical and horizontal elements of the doorway surround. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A) for both reverse and obverse, the secondary frame lines should be distinguishable from the primary without interference from die wear. Monticello doorway DDRs form a recognized collecting niche within the Jefferson nickel series, as the building's symmetrical facade provides a reliable reference grid for detecting hub displacement. Medium-spread classification indicates the secondary image sits at moderate distance from the primary — visible for clear identification but less dramatic than strong-spread examples.
