The 2011 United States Army Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a United States five-dollar gold coin from the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. In 2011 the Philadelphia Mint struck 8,052 uncirculated U.S. Army five-dollar gold coins and the West Point Mint 17,148 proofs, 25,200 in all. The obverse features five soldiers from different eras of the Army, and the reverse displays the Army emblem with THIS WE'LL DEFEND. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Joel Iskowitz/Joseph Menna.
