2011 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

Found in the special 25th Anniversary Set released to commemorate a quarter century of American Silver Eagle production, this 2011 Silver Eagle doubled die obverse is designated WDDO-001 and cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-VI. Extra thickness shows on the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the lower part of the sun’s upper rays, and the stars. A spread towards the center can be found on the bottom right ray, the bottom of the gown, and the outermost letters of IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse die markers in early die state show no significant features; reverse die markers in early die state are likewise unremarkable. The 25th Anniversary Set, issued in a limited mintage with specially selected coins, makes this DDO particularly noteworthy because examples are confined to a defined population of collector-held sets rather than dispersed through general bullion distribution. Attributed by the Wexler Team, this variety’s CONECA 1-O-VI classification places it in Class VI (distended hub doubling), where the hub impression expanded slightly during the hubbing process.
