The 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a United States five-dollar gold coin from the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. In 2011 the Philadelphia Mint struck 8,233 uncirculated Medal of Honor five-dollar gold coins and the West Point Mint 17,999 proofs, 26,232 in all. The obverse features the original 1861 Navy Medal of Honor, and the reverse displays Minerva with a shield and the Union flag beside a Civil War cannon. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Joseph Menna/Joel Iskowitz.
