Description

Displaying doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty, this WDDR-004 represents a doubled die reverse on the 2009 Presidential Dollar featuring the common Statue of Liberty reverse used across the entire Presidential series from 2007 onward. The Statue of Liberty design by Don Everhart provides excellent reference geometry for identifying doubled dies — the radiating rays and the figure's outstretched arm create multiple intersection points where even subtle hub displacement becomes measurable. Attribution die markers include a small die gouge above the left side of the S in TRUST and a die chip just below the chin on the obverse, while the reverse carries a die gouge to the left of the first S in STATES. These diagnostic markers remain stable across all coins produced from this die pair regardless of die state progression. The Presidential Dollar program, which honored presidents in chronological order of service, produced coins for circulation through 2011 before transitioning to collector-only production. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 2009-P $1 JT WDDR-004, this variety adds to the growing body of documented die varieties within the manganese-brass dollar series.
