Description

Part of the Lincoln Bicentennial celebration, this 2009-D Lincoln Cent WDDR-063 was attributed by the Wexler Team and struck at the Denver Mint on the Early Childhood reverse — the first of four special designs issued in 2009 to honor the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, the reverse depicts a log cabin like the one in Kentucky where Lincoln was born. The Wexler catalog identifier includes "SF EC" indicating Satin Finish Early Childhood, meaning this variety is found on satin finish strikes produced for 2009 Mint sets rather than standard business strikes. Satin finish coins received a distinctive matte-like surface treatment differing from both proof mirror finishes and standard luster. The 2009 program replaced the long-running Memorial reverse with four designs representing Birth and Early Childhood, Formative Years, Professional Life, and Presidency, before transitioning to the Shield reverse in 2010. Doubled die reverses from this single-year design type are inherently limited to the 2009 production window.
