The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This is the final year of the original Sacagawea dollar design before the reverse changed annually starting in 2009 for the Native American Dollar series.
