Description

The 2008 (P) Satin Finish Sacagawea Dollar is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint reports 745,464 struck. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse shows Thomas D. Rogers Sr.'s soaring eagle. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This is the final year of the original Sacagawea dollar design before the reverse changed annually starting in 2009 for the Native American Dollar series. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which has operated since 1792. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
