2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

The Philadelphia-mint counterpart to the Denver listings, this 2008-P John Quincy Adams Presidential dollar WDDR-007 carries Position A edge lettering. While sharing the same Wexler variety number, the Philadelphia issue originates from a different working die than the Denver examples — each mint facility maintained its own set of dies, and a doubled hub used at one facility would produce its own family of working dies independent of the other mint. The doubling appears at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from Liberty's head and her right arm on the Statue of Liberty reverse. Die markers specific to this die include a die gouge to the left of the bottom of "two" in 1829 on the obverse and a die gouge above the D in the designer's initials DE on the reverse. Position A denotes the standard edge lettering orientation reading right-side-up when the obverse faces the viewer. Collectors assembling a complete WDDR-007 set across both mints and both edge positions require four distinct coins to represent all combinations.
