Description

Unlike typical die clashes where the dies meet in their normal centered alignment, an atypical die clash involves some element of abnormality — misalignment, tilting, or foreign object interference — that produces transfer patterns inconsistent with a standard centered clash. Cataloged as ADC-25C-2008-01AZ by MadDieClashes, this 2008 Philadelphia Arizona State Quarter variety documents such an irregular clash event, where the ghost impressions transferred between the obverse and reverse dies do not match the patterns expected from normal die-to-die contact. Arizona's State Quarter reverse, the forty-eighth and final design in the annual release schedule, features the Grand Canyon with a saguaro cactus and the inscription "Grand Canyon State" — one of the more dramatic landscapes in the series.
