2008 (P) Alaska State Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

2008-P AK WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 2008-P Alaska state quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. Extra lines show in the fur left of the bear's nose and over the fish. Obverse Stage A: a chip in the W of WE at its upper left; a pre-die chip indentation at the base of the queue; a heavy crack along the bust's base; a pre-die break depression under the bust, over the T of QUARTER; and a pre-die break depression with a small die break under the designer's initials. On Stage B, chips also appear in the W of WE at its upper right and in the N of IN at its upper right, and the depression at the base of the queue has become a large chip. Reverse Stage A: a chip in the lower part of the 5 in 1959; a chip between the bases of the E and A in GREAT; chips between the bases of the L and A and of the A and N in LAND; a small chip in the N of LAND at its upper right; and chips between the bear's three lowest claws. Stage B adds chips in the N of LAND at its lower left and on the R of GREAT. David Serbonich submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.

• Obverse Stage A: A die chip can be found in the upper left W of WE. A pre-die chip indentation can be found at the bottom of the queue. A heavy die crack runs along the base of the bust. A pre-die break depression can be found below the bust above the T of QUARTER. A pre-die break depression and small die break can be found below the designer’s initials. Obverse Stage B: Die chips can now be found in the upper right W of WE and the upper right N of IN. The depression at the bottom of the queue is now a large die chip. Reverse Stage A: A die chip can be found in the lower 5 of 1959. A die chip can be found between the bottoms of the E and A in GREAT. Die chips can be found between the bottoms of the L and A and the bottoms of the A and N of LAND. A small die chip can be found in the upper right N of LAND. Die chips can be found between the bottom three claws of the bear. Reverse Stage B: Die chips can be found on the R of GREAT and in the lower left N of LAND.
