2008 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Die Reverse VDDR-002

Description

Displaying strong spread to the south that creates an extra central doorway roof on Monticello, this 2008-P Jefferson Nickel VDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the Return to Monticello design. The UVC and DMR codes remain pending assignment. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The extra doorway roof — where a secondary image of the architectural roofline appears below the primary one — serves as an immediately recognizable diagnostic under moderate magnification. The 2008 Jefferson Nickel marked the return to the Monticello reverse after the 2004-2005 Westward Journey designs, now paired with the new forward-facing obverse portrait introduced in 2006. Strong southward spread on Monticello's central structure is easy to see, as the clean horizontal lines of the architecture amplify even modest hub displacement.
