Description

DDR-048 on the 2007-P Wyoming State Quarter is a VarietyVista-cataloged doubled die reverse, cataloged UVC-1840 and DMR-051. The primary doubling appears as a medium spread on the first tuft of mane under the saddle horn — a design-specific location that requires careful orientation under 5x–8x magnification to isolate against the adjacent mane geometry. Four die stages document the variety's progression. Stage B (EMDS) develops a small depression above the cowboy's hat and a die crack from the front of the bust — two markers that emerge together at this stage. Stage C (MDS) advances the die crack and adds a die chip in the field on that crack from the front of the bust, making the crack-and-chip combination the defining Stage C marker set. Stage D (LDS) documents the final condition. The 2007-P Wyoming State Quarter is a clad copper-nickel issue. The die crack from the front of the bust — already initiated at Stage B and confirmed with a chip at Stage C — provides a secondary diagnostic that can be identified at lower magnification than the saddle-horn mane doubling, and is useful for initial variety triage on circulated examples.
