2007 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

Primary doubled die obverse for the 2007 Lincoln Memorial Cent, WDDO-001 exhibits strong extra thickness on the date, LIBERTY, and the lower hair and beard details of Lincoln's portrait, with lesser extra thickness visible on IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse die markers include a die crack running west-southwest to east-northeast through the hair on the upper back of the head, a die chip on that crack south of OD in GOD, and a separate die crack through the hair on the upper front of the head. The reverse carries a die crack running north-south through the left side of the C in CENT extending out to the rim. The strong extra thickness across multiple design elements — date, motto, and portrait details simultaneously — marks this as a significant hub doubling variety rather than the more commonly encountered worthless machine doubling. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 2007P-1DO-001 and CONECA 2-O-VI, this variety is also cataloged as Wexler 2007 1-cent WDDO-001. Struck in copper-plated zinc, the 2007 issue was among the final Lincoln Memorial Cent dates before the 2009 bicentennial reverses and the 2010 Shield design.
