2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-019

Description

Identified on a Position B striking of the 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar, this WDDR-019 documents doubling at a precise location on Don Everhart II's Statue of Liberty reverse: the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm. Position B means the incused edge lettering — date, mintmark, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST — reads upright when the reverse faces up, as opposed to Position A where it reads upright with the obverse facing up. This orientation was determined during a separate operation that applied inscriptions to the coin's edge after the obverse and reverse were struck. No significant die markers have been noted on either side, and no cross-references to other attribution systems are known. The George Washington issue inaugurated the Presidential Dollar series in 2007, making this a first-issue variety. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in manganese brass clad composition. Compare with the Position A counterpart, which carries identical reverse doubling but with edge lettering oriented to read upright from the obverse — the doubling is constant, but the edge lettering orientation distinguishes the two catalog entries.
