2006 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-034 / DDO-004

Description

WDDO-034, which VarietyVista numbers DDO-004, is a doubled die obverse on the 2006 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent with a very strong spread to the northeast, seen as a partial extra earlobe lying southwest of the normal one and doubled beard details reaching into the neck. Both catalogs give it the Cherrypickers number FS-101, which Wexler writes FS-01-2006-101. On the obverse Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a die scratch running south from the E in LIBERTY and a small die gouge between the S and T of TRUST; on the reverse, a die crack through the C of CENT that continues to the rim, and a die chip low on the third column. Robert H. Neff submitted the coin. Crawford lists the die as CDDO-029 and CONECA as 4-O-VIII. VarietyVista, crediting Robert Neff, describes an extra strong spread showing as a separated earlobe and lower beard. Under marker codes UVC-2503 and DMR-005, both sides are early in stage A. In stage B the obverse is early-middle, with a die chip on Memorial column 1, also early-middle, and a die crack on column 2. Stage C, a late die state, is unconfirmed.
