Description

Among the strongest doubled die obverses in the modern Lincoln Memorial Cent series, WDDO-034 on the 2006 Philadelphia Mint cent displays a very strong spread to the northeast, producing a partial extra earlobe southwest of the normal earlobe along with significant doubling of beard details extending into the neck. The extra earlobe provides a dramatic pickup point visible under moderate magnification. Obverse die markers include a die crack across the base of the bust with chipping north of the ER in QUARTER, a die gouge left of the U in TRUST, and a small die gouge right of the left leg of the first A in AMERICA. Reverse markers comprise thin north-south die scratches between branches below the RW in RIVERWAYS and background trees, plus a small die gouge in the field far below the K in OZARK. Extensively cross-referenced as Crawford CDDO-029, CONECA 4-O-VIII, and Cherrypickers FS-01-2006-101, this variety holds guide-book status. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2006 1¢ WDDO-034. A die chip can be found on the lower third column.
