Description

Strong extra thickness with pronounced notches on the upper left of every letter in LIBERTY marks the 2006-P Lincoln Memorial cent WDDO-033 as a substantive doubled die obverse variety. The doubling extends beyond the legend: extra thickness also shows on the lower hair and beard details of Lincoln's portrait and on the date, confirming the secondary hub impression reached across the full obverse field. Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDO-027. Wexler Variety ID: 2006 1c WDDO-033. Die markers anchor attribution precisely: on the obverse, a small die gouge sits south of the 2 in the date, and a die crack runs north-northwest from the eyebrow through the forehead into the hair above — a distinctive marker that becomes more prominent in later die states. On the reverse, die cracks and chips appear at the top of the first two Memorial columns, and an additional die crack runs above the third column. The Crawford CDDO-027 listing confirms independent census inclusion. Lincoln Memorial cents were struck on copper-plated zinc; the 2006-P was among the final issues before the 2009 Bicentennial pennies retired the Memorial reverse. Reverse: Die cracks and die chips can be found at the top of the first two Memorial columns.
