Description

WDDO-018 on the 2006-P Lincoln Memorial Cent was attributed by the Wexler Team and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 2006 1¢ WDDO-018. The doubling targets the portrait details most refined in the sculpted relief: extra thickness shows on the lower hair and beard details of Lincoln's portrait, and light extra thickness is additionally visible on the date below. Die markers confirm attribution on both sides. On the obverse, a small die gouge appearing as a dot is located below the chin. On the reverse, a small die gouge appearing as a dot can be found between the lower U and N in UNITED; a strong die gouge is located to the right of a nearby design element in the same area. The 2006 Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck in copper-plated zinc — the composition introduced in 1982 consisting of a pure copper outer layer over a zinc core — at the Philadelphia Mint in the penultimate year of the Memorial reverse design. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 2006 1¢ WDDO-018. A die crack runs down the left side of the E in CENT and extends out to the rim. A die chip can be found on the left side of the N in UNUM.
