Description

Seventh doubled die obverse cataloged for the 2006 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, WDDO-007 shows light extra thickness on LIBERTY with notches on the upper left of IBERTY, along with some extra thickness on the date. The notching pattern on the upper left serifs of the letters indicates a slight directional spread during the hubbing process, where the secondary impression displaced just enough to leave detectable ridges on the letter profiles. Victor David Brenner's obverse portrait of Lincoln, in continuous use since 1909, carried these fine inscription details that served as reliable indicators of hub doubling. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2006 1c WDDO-007. Die Markers: Obverse: A die scratch runs NW from the top of the beard; a die scratch runs NE from the nose. Reverse: A die scratch is present in the reverse field. The opposing die scratches radiating from the beard and nose provide strong secondary attribution markers that distinguish WDDO-007 from other 2006 doubled die obverse varieties. The 2006-P was among the final dates of the Memorial reverse era.
