2006 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

2006 WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on the 2006 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY is lightly thickened and IBERTY carries notches on the upper left; the date is somewhat thickened too. Obverse Stage A: scratches heading NW from the top of the beard, and scratches heading NE from the nose and mouth. Obverse Stage B keeps the Stage A markers and adds a small gouge under the second zero of the date, a small gouge touching the upper right of the first zero, and two tiny gouges (dots) on the lower part of Lincoln's jacket. On the reverse, Stage A shows a scratch running NW from the upper right of the T in CENT down to the base of the Memorial; an E/W scratch beneath the lower right of the Memorial; an E/W scratch from the lower second U of UNUM to the E of AMERICA; and many light E/W scratches across the Memorial. Reverse Stage B keeps those and adds a gouge inside the M of AMERICA, in its upper opening, parallel scratches running east from the E in AMERICA (which Wexler thinks were likely already present on Stage A), and a short gouge inside the C of CENT, in its lower opening. Robert H. Neff submitted Stage A and Brian Ribar submitted Stage B, with the die markers updated from a coin belonging to David Curfman. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments explain that the original 2006 WDDO-056 turned out to be a later stage of this die and was folded in as Stage B. Because not every marker was checked on the Stage A coin and no example is on hand to review, some Stage B markers may turn out to be present on Stage A as well.
