2006 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005
Error
Description
WDDO-005 on the 2006-P Lincoln Memorial Cent shows light extra thickness on LIBERTY, with notches on the upper left of the ERTY letters — the I-2 doubling as slight letter thickening, with the notch pattern indicating the offset geometry of the hub movement during die preparation. Die markers: Obverse carries a small die gouge below the second 0 of 2006. Wexler Variety ID: 2006 1¢ WDDO-005. The 2006 Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets — the composition in use since 1982. The LIBERTY inscription on the Lincoln Cent obverse is one of the most frequently targeted elements in obverse doubled die attribution, as its open letter forms make hub-doubling artifacts more visible than on the portrait itself. The notching on the upper-left letterforms of ERTY is a specific geometric consequence of the offset direction during hubbing: the upper-left corners of affected letters received a characteristic notched interruption. The die gouge below the second 0 of 2006 provides field-marker confirmation for this specific working die in the Wexler Lincoln Cent reference. A long die scratch runs N/S through the left side of the E in LIBERTY.
