2005 (P) Satin Finish Jefferson Nickel - Ocean in View - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-004

Description

Among the most visually dramatic doubled die reverses in the Westward Journey series, the 2005 Jefferson Nickel DDR-004 displays a very strong spread manifesting as an extremely strong doubled fork to the left of the right tree on the Bison design reverse. The intensity of the doubling — described as "extremely strong" — places this variety among the more easily detected doubled dies for the 2005 date, as the doubled fork creates a clearly visible shadow element adjacent to the original design. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1564 with die marriage reference DMR-009, Stage A confirms both reverse and obverse in early die state, while Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. This variety was struck using SMS-quality production and can be found in official U.S. Mint Sets from 2005, providing collectors with a known source for potential specimens. The 2005 Bison reverse was used for only a single year as part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series, and very strong doubled die varieties from one-year-only designs attract collectors who value the combination of dramatic visual impact and limited design-run availability.
