Popularly known as the "In God We Rust" quarter, this 2005 Philadelphia Mint Kansas State Quarter is a strike-through error where foreign material -- likely grease or debris -- was trapped between die and planchet during striking, preventing full design transfer. The obstruction removes the T from TRUST, producing the famous misread "In God We Rust" that generated widespread media attention. This error exists in varying intensities, with some showing a faint T and others having more letters affected. At copper-nickel clad, 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm, the Kansas reverse depicts a bison and sunflower. Strike-throughs differ from die varieties because each occurrence is unique to the individual planchet, created by random foreign material rather than a permanent die defect. This variety became one of the most publicized modern errors in numismatics.
