Description

On the Michigan State Quarter, WDDO-001 shows doubling on the underside of Washington's earlobe. Obverse die markers include a short, vertical die scratch just to the right of the lower I in UNITED. The reverse carries a small die gouge to the left of the top of the P in PLURIBUS, a small die gouge to the right of the bottom of the 4 in 2004, and a small die gouge just above the top left side of the first U in UNUM. The earlobe doubling, while subtle, falls in an area where collectors commonly examine the Washington portrait for variety diagnostics, making it discoverable during routine State Quarter inspection. The cluster of three reverse die gouges near PLURIBUS, the date, and UNUM provides a triangulated confirmation pattern across different zones of the reverse design, allowing collectors to verify the variety from multiple independent markers on the Michigan reverse.
