2002 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-016

Description

2002 WDDR-016 is a doubled die reverse on the 2002 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is on the left side of the seventh column, right of the statue's legs, and also appears between the statue's knees. Obverse markers: a gouge (dot) beneath Lincoln's nose; a gouge (dot) at the back of his mouth; a gouge in the field right of his eyebrow; two gouges (dots) behind the head, SE of IN; a strong vertical flow line in the die just right of the final T of TRUST; and two strong gouges along the top edge of the collar. Reverse markers: a strong gouge (dot) under the first S in STATES; die damage on the SW edge of the L in PLURIBUS; two gouges (dots) in the field left of the left end of the Memorial roof; a light diagonal crack across the top of column 2; a gouge (dot) in bay 3 of the Memorial; and a crack running NE from the right buttress with the tripod. Kenneth Cleveland submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes that this die replaces the original 2002 WDDR-016, which turned out to duplicate 2002 WDDO-002/WDDR-030.
