2002 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-013

Description

Exhibiting medium spread to the west on the reverse of this 2002 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-013 produces an extra column at the seventh position extending from knee to foot on the Lincoln statue, with an extra leg visible between the statue's legs. Where the 2001-D DDR-006 shows southwest spread on the same column with extra knees from hand to pedestal, this 2002 variety's westward displacement creates a purely lateral offset affecting the lower portion of column seven — a complementary but distinct doubling pattern on the same architectural element. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-3246 and DMR-014, the die is documented in Stage A with reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B in mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The extra leg between the statue's legs is a particularly striking diagnostic: the tiny seated Lincoln receives the same displacement as the columns, rendering the doubling as an anatomical anomaly rather than an architectural one.
