2002 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Cataloged as UVC-2819 and DMR-002 in the VarietyVista system, the 2002 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-001 exhibits strong spread to the northwest, producing an extra column #7 visible from elbow to shin and extra knees on the Lincoln Memorial statue. Die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A shows the reverse at EDS with a die gouge dot in the field under E of LIBERTY. Stage B advances to MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C reaches LDS (unconfirmed). The extra column and doubled knees on the Memorial statue provide visually compelling diagnostics that are more immediately apparent than typical lettering-based doubling. The Stage A die gouge dot under E of LIBERTY offers a useful early die state sorting criterion for collectors evaluating specimens from this popular modern Lincoln Cent variety.
