1998 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

1998-D WDDR-006 is a doubled die reverse on the 1998-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The Memorial building shows a strong Class I spread in the clockwise (CW) direction. Doubling appears under the left side of the Memorial and over its right side. Extra columns show in Memorial bays 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11, and they lean at an angle that matches the CW rotation. On the obverse, parallel NW-SE die scratches cross the TRU of TRUST, and a die gouge lies under the second 9 of the date. On the reverse, a gouge sits between the lower M and E of AMERICA, another is below the right end of the Memorial's bottom edge, and one touches the N in CENT at the lower left of its diagonal bar. In the upper part of the last Memorial bay, a die scratch runs NNW to SSE. Joseph Koelling submitted the variety. Its Coppercoins number is 1998D-1DR-003. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
