Description

On the Lincoln Memorial reverse, westward hub displacement produces ghost columns to the left of the existing architectural elements, and the 1997 DDR-003 exhibits light spread to the west creating an extra column #7 — the first column right of the seated Lincoln statue — visible from the shoulder down to the hand. Column #7 is the primary target for west-spread Memorial cent DDRs because its position adjacent to the statue places it directly in the path of any leftward-shifted secondary image. The shoulder-to-hand extent captures the upper portion of the column, from roughly where it emerges behind the statue's shoulder to the level of Lincoln's resting hand. Cataloged under UVC-3099 / DMR-006 by VarietyVista, die stages show Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The EDS confirmation at Stage A means the earliest specimens from this die should display clean column detail without interference from flow lines or die fatigue. Light-spread classification indicates the ghost column sits close to the primary, requiring careful examination under magnification.
