1997 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - CU-1C-1997-04 Cud

Description

Fourth and final in the documented cud sequence for the 1997 Philadelphia cent, CU-1C-1997-04 represents the last cataloged terminal die break for this production year. Each cud variety traces to a unique working die that experienced catastrophic failure — a rim-adjacent crack system that propagated until a section of die face separated, leaving a void that struck up as a raised featureless area on every subsequent coin. The CU-1C-1997-04 designation follows Cuds on Coins' standardized catalog format, providing the denomination, year, and sequence number in a compact reference string. Collectors interested in assembling a date-run of 1990s Philadelphia cent cuds would find the 1997-P series more manageable than the densely populated 1996 or 1999 inventories, with only four varieties to locate rather than nine.
