Description

Exhibiting a strong clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 9 o'clock, WDDO-005 on the 1996 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent presents doubling across IN GOD WE TRUST, the lower front of Lincoln's bust, the eyelid, the upper front hair details, and the date. This pivot-style doubling creates a rotational displacement pattern where design elements farther from the pivot axis show progressively greater separation. Obverse die markers include a short die gouge extending from the rim above the O in GOD and die pitting below the RTY in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a short die crack runs northwest from the upper right of the N in CENT. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-V and Wexler Variety ID 1996 1¢ WDDO-005, this variety carries two independent cataloging attributions that confirm its status within the doubled die census for this date.
