1995 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003
Error
Description
Manifesting as a ghost architectural line within the Lincoln Memorial, DDR-003 on the 1995-P Lincoln Memorial Cent shows light spread rotated clockwise, appearing as an extra ceiling line above the seated Lincoln statue inside the memorial. Die markers UVC-3074 and DMR-007 confirm this working die. Frank Gasparro's detailed Lincoln Memorial reverse depicts the memorial building with twelve columns, and the interior reveals a small seated Lincoln statue visible between the central columns. The clockwise-rotated hub impression shifted the ceiling line's secondary image slightly upward and to the right of its primary position, creating the appearance of an additional architectural element above the statue — a diagnostic feature that is both specific and visually intuitive once identified. The 1995 Lincoln cent is one of the most famous doubled die dates in the series, largely because of the spectacular DDO-001 (doubled die obverse) that shows dramatic doubling on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. While DDR-003 is far subtler than the celebrated obverse variety, it benefits from the heightened collector attention that the 1995 date commands. Struck in copper-plated zinc composition (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper plating) at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin weighs 2.5 grams. The extra ceiling line is best observed under 5x to 7x magnification with the coin tilted to catch light along the memorial interior.
