1994 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
Error
Description
Extra thickness shows on UNITED, ONE CENT, AMERICA, and the designer's initials on this 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die reverse. Notches show on the upper letters of ONE CENT, especially the N in ONE, and the lower 2nd A in AMERICA — precise serif-level details that confirm the hub misalignment direction and magnitude. The die markers for this variety are exceptionally well documented. On the obverse, a strong die scratch connects the upper 1 and first 9 in the date, and mostly parallel die scratches run from west to east below TRUST. On the reverse, a short die scratch runs northeast from the upper 6th column, a short diagonal die scratch can be found just to the left of the center of the O in ONE, a light die crack connects the upper N and I in UNITED, and a die scratch runs east-northeast from the G in the designer's initials. The obverse die scratch connecting date digits is a particularly distinctive marker — date-area scratches are easy to locate and difficult to confuse with other die pairs. Designated as Wexler Variety ID 1994 1¢ WDDR-001, no additional cross-references are currently known.
