1994 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-010
Error
Description
Documented in two distinct die states, Wexler WDDR-010 on the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln cent exhibits extra Memorial columns running down the centers of bays 10 and 11. Stage A obverse markers include a short die scratch running SW from the bottom of the second 9 in the date. Stage B obverse markers show a die scratch running ESE from the lower lip. On the reverse, Stage A carries a light die scratch running SW from the top of the first Memorial column, a die scratch running north to south just right of the last column, a die scratch running WSW to ENE above O and N of ONE, and two parallel die scratches running WSW to ENE above the N in CENT. Stage B reverse markers are more dramatic: a large die chip on the left cornice and a die crack running NE from the right cornice through the bottom right tip of the R in AMERICA and out to the rim. The progression from Stage A to Stage B records significant deterioration of this die pair during its service life. Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-014 and Wexler Variety ID 1994 1¢ WDDR-010.
