Description

Exhibiting a Class V counterclockwise spread from a pivot point at about 10:00, this 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die reverse shows the rotational doubling pattern characteristic of a hub that was slightly pivoted between impressions. The doubling radiates outward from the 10:00 pivot, appearing on OF AMERICA, ONE CENT, the designer's initials, and the lower right Memorial — areas positioned farthest from the pivot point, where the angular displacement translates into the greatest linear spread. Cross-referenced as CONECA 2-R-V, Crawford CDDR-003, and Coppercoins 1994P-1DR-018, this variety is also designated Wexler Variety ID 1994 1¢ WDDR-003. The die markers provide a detailed attribution profile. On the reverse, a short vertical die scratch appears to the left of the top of the 2nd A in AMERICA, a short die gouge sits to the right of the upper D in UNITED, short horizontal die scratches appear in the lower 1st Memorial bay, and a short die gouge runs west from the left center of the C in CENT. The obverse shows no noted markers. Class V doubled dies are less common than Class IV varieties among Lincoln Memorial cents, making WDDR-003 a distinctive entry in the 1994-P census.
