Description

ADC-1c-1994-01 This 1994 Philadelphia minted Lincoln cent shows a triple, unabraded die clashing, mostly on the obverse of the coin. The coin is courtesy of Bob Piazza. The images of the obverse show three distinctive clashes. The hammer die, presumably the obverse die, moved to the west and upward after each clash, partially obliterating the previous clash. While the clash marks are distinctive on the obverse, little is seen as far as clash marks on the reverse. Only faint indication of clash marks can be seen in bays 8 and 9. Also notice that there is a slight rotation to the clash marks (approximately 5°) from the horizontal plane that is not seen during the actual striking of the planchet or coin.
