1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002 / DDR-001

Description

DDR-001, which Wexler numbers WDDR-002, is a doubled die reverse on the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent showing parts of extra columns low in bays 2, 3, 4 and 10 and nearly a whole extra column in bay 11. Both catalogs give it the Cherrypickers number FS-801 (039.9); Wexler writes it FS-01-1994-801. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties attributes the extra columns to a very wide eastward spread from an offset hub (Class IV), and adds that the top of the post left of the steps appears in the lower second bay. On the obverse many die scratches run mostly SSW to NNE on both sides of the bust, one crosses the O of GOD from SW to NE, and another crosses the left side of the first 9 in the same direction. On the reverse a dot lies inside the lower part of the first A in AMERICA and two short die gouges sit at the top of the first bay. Jim Mattaliano submitted the coin, and the color photos come from a coin of Joseph Koelling. CONECA lists the die as 1-R-IV and Crawford as CDDR-001; its Coppercoins number is 1994P-1DR-001. VarietyVista, crediting James Mattaliano, describes the spread as very strong and uses marker codes UVC-2436 and DMR-002.
