Part of the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series, the 1989 (W) Congress Bicentennial Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a five-dollar gold coin from the West Point Mint. The West Point Mint struck 46,899 uncirculated Congress Bicentennial five-dollar gold coins dated 1989. The obverse features the dome of the Capitol, and the reverse displays the eagle from the canopy of the Old Senate Chamber. Coined at the West Point Mint, which transitioned from bullion depository to a dedicated production facility for commemorative and investment-grade coins. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9636.
