Part of the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series, the 1989 (W) Congress Bicentennial Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a cent from the West Point Mint. With a mintage of 46,899, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages.
