Description

Bearing more die markers than any other 1988 Philadelphia Wexler variety, WDDO-006 exhibits strong spread on the date and IN GOD WE TRUST while carrying an extensive array of die imperfections. Parallel scratches extend from the 9 in the date, a scratch runs through Lincoln's ear and cheek, another scratch trails from the T in LIBERTY, and yet another from the T in TRUST, with numerous additional scratches scattered across the obverse field. This density of die scratches — more extensive than on any other 1988 WDDO variety — transforms the obverse into a diagnostic map where virtually any quadrant offers attribution markers. The reverse, by contrast, shows no significant die markers, creating an asymmetric diagnostic profile: the obverse is unmistakable, while the reverse offers no independent confirmation. This asymmetry is not unusual — die markers result from individual handling events specific to each die, and an obverse die can accumulate extensive damage while its reverse partner remains relatively clean. The strong spread on the date and motto, combined with the parallel scratch signature near the 9, makes WDDO-006 identifiable even at moderate magnification. Attributed by the Wexler Team and struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets weighing 2.5 grams at 19mm diameter.
