1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1988 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1988 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a spread toward the center, visible on the upper hair details and on IN GOD WE TRUST, and it widens from left to right. LIBERTY and the date show slight extra thickness. Obverse Stage A has two parallel vertical scratches between IN and GOD; Wexler notes they appear on both stages. Starting at the rim around 8:00, a scratch heads NNE into the field, and from the shoulder, right of the Y in LIBERTY, another heads NW. Obverse Stage B adds a light clash mark left of the neck's back, a NE scratch off the lower vest front, and a NE scratch off the center right of the G in GOD. On reverse Stage A, a vertical scratch comes off the rim beneath the O in ONE. Reverse Stage B shows many scratches across and above ONE CENT, including a prominent NE scratch off the N in ONE at its upper left and a prominent ENE scratch off the middle bar of the E in ONE.
