Description

A minor doubled die obverse designated by the Wexler team as 1984 1-cent WDDO-006, this Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent displays spread towards center confined to the date. When hub doubling affects only the date while leaving LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the bust profile apparently undoubled, it generally indicates that the angular misalignment was minimal and only the deeply recessed date numerals retained enough evidence to survive subsequent die finishing. Spread towards center on the date manifests as a slight inward thickening of the numeral strokes, distinguishable from die deterioration doubling by its consistent directionality and sharp secondary edges. A reverse die marker — a gouge to the right of the top of the D in UNITED — confirms the specific die pair. No cross references to other attribution systems have been established.
