Description

Rather than the lateral spread seen on many 1984 doubled dies, DDO-007 manifests as medium extra thickness on the date of the Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent. Extra thickness — as distinguished from spread — occurs when the secondary hub impression falls almost directly atop the primary image but with enough offset to widen the apparent stroke width of the affected elements without producing a clearly separated secondary outline. On the date, this effect gives the numerals a subtly bolder, heavier appearance compared to a normal die, a difference best observed by comparing side-by-side with an undoubled specimen of the same date. The distinction between "extra thickness" and "spread" is an important diagnostic in doubled die attribution, as it reflects the vector and magnitude of the hub misalignment during die preparation. Die markers UVC-3329 and DMR-010 confirm the specific die.
