Medium extra thickness indicates that hub doubling broadened the affected letters noticeably but not enough to create the clear separation seen on stronger doubled dies. For cherrypickers, DDO-003 rewards careful examination under magnification — the extra thickness on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST becomes apparent when comparing letter widths against a normal 1984-P cent, particularly on vertical strokes where slight broadening changes proportions visibly.
