1981 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Type I Counter Clash CCLTI-5C-1981-01

Description

CCL(TI)-5c-1981-01 is a Type I counter clash on a 1981-P Jefferson nickel, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The dies clashed twice with an offset in direction between the events, and that offset formed the counter clash. The O of MONTICELLO appears twice; the second O, marked by a black arrow, is the counter clash, and it is raised, a sign of a clash mark transferred twice. Right of the back of Jefferson's head, the field holds Monticello's base line and the O of MONTICELLO; base line and roof line each appear twice. Jefferson's forehead left marks in the F of FIVE and the M of MONTICELLO, and the dome of Monticello shows below his chin. The marks known as "Flames over Monticello" came from the gap between his queue and the back of his neck. His jacket front and collar show in the field above and left of the dome. FIVE's F has its leg in the field left of his forehead, and the base of Monticello shows twice in front of his eye. The coin is in Troy Watkins's collection.
